Clear Clean Kitchen Table

I finally cleared off my kitchen table.

I admit it.
It has been the repository for mostly my stuff.

For the past several months it has been cluttered with projects.
Or with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine decorations
Which are placed on the table
Before I put them into their plastic containers
Sometimes it takes me a long time to get someone
To help me lug the boxes up to the garage attic.

I can't wait to gather with the fam
Around my clean and clear kitchen table
And enjoy a meal, or a game, or a conversation.

The Last Sunday in February

In spite of the cold temps

(I know, we are a bunch of wimps when our temps dip below 40)

I spent the entire afternoon yesterday in my yard...

Weeding, planting, moving rocks, transplanting, and raking.

I donned my warm jacket this morning to do a little snapping
(it was 44 degrees at 7:30...it felt like 34 degrees)

So I could share some blooming delights that give me such joy.

Crocus...usually the first to bloom..and a sure sign of the arrival of spring.
They are late this year.

Daffodils (Cheerfulness) blooming next to my front path.
(Note the yellow specks in the lower left are crocus peering from the soil)

Now, how can you keep from smiling after gazing upon bright sunny King Alfred daffodils?

I simply love my clematis vine clinging to the side fence

Bursting with beautiful fragrant blooms...

This is why I love to garden.

Babysitting the Grandbabe

Such a treat to come home from work

And "grandbabysit" this adorable little guy

While his parents attended a concert.

Nothing sweeter than

Having him fall asleep in the crook of my arm

(He is waving to you... aka blurry arm...
such a smart baby at 2 months!)

Oranges

How do you eat your orange?

Do you peel it, and eat the individual sections?

Or do you slice it?

Or do you quarter it?

Or do you cut your orange in half and remove part of the rind on each half like this:

My mother would serve oranges to us kids like this...

And I think of her each time.

Oh, that orange was so tasty..and juicy...and sweet.

I love oranges.

Return of the Bus Stop Lady

Do you remember my post last year about the lady
who used a bus stop bench as her bed?
(check it here)

Shortly after I wrote that post,
I saw a female officer removing Ms. Bus Stop Bench Lady

Well, she is back.

She has expanded her "house" too.

I couldn't see her but I knew she was underneath the tarp
that was tied to her shopping cart basket
which made a "cozy little fort"
to shield her from the cold, rainy night.

One hour later, she was gone.
I do hope she found a place to get warm.

What's For Dinner?

Ever since I've been married, I've kept a supply of fixings for a green salad in the fridge.

And over the years, some sort of green salad has ususally been on our dinner menu.

Tonight this is what we had for dinner:

Nothing finer than a tuna melt, a big glass of ice cold milk and a fresh green salad.

What did you have?

Six Decades for my Sistah

Six decades ago my parents welcomed their first born child ...

a cute and cuddly bundle of joy.

I have always held a high regard for my oldest sister...

She is oh so caring....

But also very smart, is constantly reading, works hard at her job, has exquisite taste, knows the hippest and latest happenings, and is easy to talk to.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SISTAH!

Red Light..Green Light

When you were a kid, did you ever play the game

"Red Light....

Green Light"?

I did...and enjoyed trying my hardest to be the "traffic light".

I don't play that game on my lawn anymore...

But I do play a similar game...

The one of "Making Every Green Light on the Way to the Gym" game.

And guess what?

I won this morning.

I made EVERY green light (there are six of them)

...and got to the gym in record speed.

A very fine day is ahead indeed..

All because of those green lights.

Angelic Babe

The little one in his linen suit.

Here is the fam on the back steps

What a lovely afternoon indeed.

The Outfit

A linen "suit" I made for my dear grandbabe's blessing.

Tomorrow he will be blessed by his dad in church.

"Being blessed" in our church is similar to being christened...

The difference is children our church are baptized when they turn eight.

His mom is making some linen "shoes" lined in polka dot flannel...

So appropriate... especially when your name is "Shoemaker"!

Knitting

I am determined to learn how to knit.

When I was about nine or ten, a little old lady in my church
taught the girls in my Sunday School classhow to knit and crochet.

I really haven't picked up any needles or a hook since then.

I can cross stitch, embroider, sew, quilt, and needlepoint.

But when it comes to knitting and/or crocheting...

I am intimidated....it seems very complicated to me.

My friends who knit, tell me otherwise.

I've noticed how knitting has become a "cool" thing to do these days.

Young and old alike are picking up needles and yarn

and are creating ...

A couple of "knitter" blogs I follow:

and

are authored by young moms who create all sorts of knitted attire for their little ones.

I am determined.

All I have to do now is to start casting on and counting stitches.

Wish me luck.
