The minute I saw it, I thought, wow, that would make either a great plant stand or a fantastic bird feeder! I just needed to purchase some new nuts and bolts, reattach the legs, and squirt some rust colored spray paint on the shiny bolts.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/14258157798/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3920/14258157798_733aa2aec0.jpg" width="375" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Love the patina of the multi layered paint</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I happened to have an old rusty "bowl-dish" and which fit perfectly in the seat...<br />
<br />
<br />
I threw in some seed and whaalaa...<br />
<br />
<br />
I now have repurposed an old stool into one very cool bird feeder.<br />

It seems like only yesterday when we poured the base for the basketball hoop and had our kids imprint their little hands in the wet cement. Where did the time go?<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibIoigxe6bq6O4rCC9gMfLxxTMXOK-OymOBv1so2WZbCVM7A12XY8juMBmsd6sIkw2qTcGf9krcctphRu9b9GWXtfZ5uqlnsVEHwNGzE9roxcCiUfOvjkdjsWfx6qiGeVOX9kOjuB2NFPy/s640/blogger-image--104672052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibIoigxe6bq6O4rCC9gMfLxxTMXOK-OymOBv1so2WZbCVM7A12XY8juMBmsd6sIkw2qTcGf9krcctphRu9b9GWXtfZ5uqlnsVEHwNGzE9roxcCiUfOvjkdjsWfx6qiGeVOX9kOjuB2NFPy/s640/blogger-image--104672052.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">For those with little kiddos....I know the daily grind of raising kids is hard, tiring and tough at times. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/14100232938/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="375" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5274/14100232938_e7909b2a90.jpg" width="500" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What would you do with a barrel hoop?. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I know there are some people who think I am bit crazy using this "stuff" but I love the patina and rustic charm. My creative juices started to flow. What if I made a chandelier by attaching canning jars to the hoop, putting some candles in those canning jars and hanging it above my table outside under the pergola?<br />
I had to make a trip to Orchard Supply and I splurged $18 on some galvanized chain and some nuts and bolts (wishing I had picked up that rusty chain I saw at an estate sale not long ago...oh well).<br />
My dad came to my rescue by helping me punch holes in the hoop with his drill press.
Dads with tools are wonderful.
Couldn't have done it without him. That was slick. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/14286371244/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="My helping me put holes in the barrel hoop with his drill press by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="My helping me put holes in the barrel hoop with his drill press" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3724/14286371244_9b045d1026.jpg" width="375" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My dad with his drill press helping me in his garage.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I wrapped some rusty wire (had it in my stash) to six canning jars in my signature aqua blue color (also had them in my collection). Found out how to date the jars via <a href="http://www.minnetrista.net/blog/2013/06/27/ball-family-history/how-to-date-a-ball-jar/"><strong><span style="color: red;">Minnetrista</span></strong></a> and discovered most of my jars were produced between 1923 - 1933 with one produced between 1910 - 1923. How cool is that? They will now live out the rest of their lives as candle holders.
Whalaa..
here is my chandelier in the daytime:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/14080068867/" title="Made this chandelier for our table outside repurposing a barrel hoop and vintage blue canning jars (which I already had) by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Made this chandelier for our table outside repurposing a barrel hoop and vintage blue canning jars (which I already had)" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3755/14080068867_2bd457182f.jpg" width="375" /></a>
</div>
and here it is at night:
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
This simple addition brings such a nice ambiance to our outdoor meals and I love that I only spent $22 on the whole thing. I love spring ...the fresh new growth...the warm sunshine...the cool temperatures....<br />
California has <em>the best </em>climate.Packet of Seedshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08348920734233633555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8872820476854772967.post-89190231374150976232014-04-16T05:56:00.002-07:002014-04-16T05:56:44.723-07:00"Golden Spirit" In The GardenA few years ago, I helped the Shoes with planting their front yard. The Shoe's cleared the space, installed the irrigation, planted a couple of trees, and had a brick path installed using some cool bricks from San Jose.<br />
<br />
It was fun to start with a clean slate. The yard faces west so it gets full afternoon sun. It was not only important to choose sun loving plants but they also needed to be drought tolerant too. You can see my faves are yellow, green and purple with splashes of bronze spattered about. I love the combination of lavender, blood stonecrop, crape myrtle, Jerusalem sage and echiveria succulents. The garden is in its primo state right now.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13452453904/" title="Shoe's Front Yard by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Shoe's Front Yard" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7061/13452453904_93019abaeb.jpg" height="500" width="407" /></a><br />
<br />
Most stunning is the Golden Spirit Smoke Bush though.....every garden should have one. It is quite spectacular all year round...puffs of "smoke" (the flower) will bloom later in the spring and then the bright yellow leaves will turn orange red in the fall. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bottom photos: Left is a close up of Jerusalem Sage and Right is Verbena (I think)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The garden has been mulched which will not only help with retaining moisture but also cut down on weeds.<br />
<br />
A lot of punch is happening in this small front garden...and it makes me smile every time I visit.Packet of Seedshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08348920734233633555noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8872820476854772967.post-20257744346642395452014-04-09T13:08:00.000-07:002014-04-14T16:20:00.349-07:00My Creative Aunt MarcineThe internet has made it possible to connect with some incredible and creative people through blogs, and Facebook. Instagram and Pinterest has made it possible to share the results of those crafty, artistic and talented people through their photos.
It is wonderful that it has become "hip" and "cool" to be crafty, to sew, to cook, to create, to knit/crochet, to upcycle, to garden, to share ideas on raising children, to farm, and to photograph. Believe it or not, being crafty hasn't always been so "in".<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have an aunt who has been creating, sewing, crocheting, cooking, serving others her entire life....eight full decades. .... let me introduce you to <em> (drum roll please)...</em><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13110609033/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="440" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7376/13110609033_23abfe5e02.jpg" width="386" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
my AUNT MARCINE.</div>
I can imagine her as a little girl planted at her mother's feet and learning all she could to soak in all the instructions her mother could deliver. You would most likely find her hands filled with a project...sometimes sewing, other times embroidering, and then it could be something she is crocheting. Here she is on a picnic with my parents as young married embroidering what looks to be a tablecloth:<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Love the little box by her side holding her sewing supplies.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
She sewed all her clothes, even her coats. She even sewed her own wedding dress. Oh, doesn't she look so radiant! My uncle is looking pretty dapper himself.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/6871706576/" title="img706 by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="img706" height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7120/6871706576_665045f657.jpg" width="399" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
She sewed clothes for her nine children (including underwear for her boys) and my uncle.<br />
Aren't those handmade pjs adorable? <br />

<br />
One year for Christmas, she sent my three sisters and I little clowns to put our PJ's inside.<br />
My sister still has hers...I only wish I had mine.<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13092200384/" title="Christmas in Palo Altos by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Christmas in Palo Altos" height="333" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2300/13092200384_c73f12f12a.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
When I was in college, my sister and I went to her house and she showed us how to bottle strawberry jam. And on one of my recent visits to her house, I walked in the door and found her in the kitchen finishing up bottling some peaches....she made it look so easy. I wonder how many bottles she has filled (and "canned") over the years...I suspect it is many thousands.<br />
She crocheted this wonderful blanket for me, using her leftover yarns from previous projects. You see, she does not let anything go to waste. I love to wrap up in this treasure while watching TV.<br />
<br />

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Several years ago she made fabric bags to cook potatoes in the microwave oven for each of us in my family.</div>

This past Christmas, she made each of my sisters, brother and I a table runner. Each one was made from a different fabric. I put my runner underneath the Lazy Susan in the middle of my island.<br />

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's day? <br />
<br />
The closest I am to being Irish is the fact that my mother's name is "Patricia". When I was young, I "celebrated" by making sure I wore green to school so I wouldn't get pinched. After I got married I adopted this fun holiday by gathering family together and eating. That is what St. Patrick's Day is all about. Eating and drinking.<br />
<br />
Tonight we had family over for a traditional dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots and bread. This is the easiest dinner on the planet for all you have to do is throw the corned beef and veggies in the crock pot in the morning and let it cook all day. I must say it was yummy.<br />

A quilt for my little grandson who is due any day now.<br />
<br />
<img alt="IMG_6486" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2099/13107656334_7030ee97a2.jpg" height="333" width="500" /><br />
I love making baby quilts. .<br />
I've made quilts for each of my children, my grandchildren, my nieces and some friends.<br />
<br />
Let me share the process I went through with this quilt:<br />
<br />
I started by going through my stash and pulling out what grabbed me. It took awhile...I pulled, put back, pulled, put back. I even used fabric from my "scrap drawer". You never know when those smaller scraps can come in handy.<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13106457623/" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3724/13106457623_8898e49a09.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Next to decide which design to make? Do I make strips? Nine patch? Log cabin?<br />
<br />
So many choices.<br />
Keep It Simple kept running through my head .<br />
<br />
For this quilt I decided to use (A) as my inspiration fabric. I wanted to cut strips of this fabric to use as a border.<br />
<br />
Next, (B) I threw the fabrics together on the floor while choosing what I will use for the field squares. Needed to visualize what it would look like<br />
<br />
Since I decided to make triangles in the main field, I cut strips of fabric 5 3/4 in wide (C) and then <br />
cut those strips into 5 3/4 in squares (D).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13106633154/" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7311/13106633154_f112a94c36.jpg" height="500" width="500" /></a>
<br />
Now, let me show you how I made those triangles.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13106638264/" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2123/13106638264_fd31c2a849.jpg" height="500" width="500" /></a>
<br />
After piecing the triangle squares together, sewing the border, grabbing some natural cotton batting. and choosing the backing, I came up with this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13109811343/" title="Untitled by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7417/13109811343_88dab82edc.jpg" height="323" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13107647194/" title="IMG_6487 by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><br /></a><br />
And then I hand quilted away....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/13107374975/" title="IMG_6488 by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="IMG_6488" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3721/13107374975_f8d4bcd6d0.jpg" height="333" width="500" /></a><br />

I can't remember her name, but I do remember going to her house, sitting in her little living room and watching her gentle worn hands teaching us a new skill. Every time I pass her house (which is right off Grant Road in Los Altos), I think of her.<br />
<br />
Ever since then, I have had a desire to knit but have been intimidated by it. I know how to sew, embroider, quilt, needlepoint...but knitting, well that has always scared the bejesus out of me. I have been in awe of those who create such beautiful things with yarn.<br />
<br />
For Christmas, my dear husband gave me a knitting class put on by a wonderful store in town called <a href="http://www.uncommonthreadsyarn.com/"><strong><span style="color: purple;">uncommon threads</span></strong></a> , a full service yarn shop which is filled with all sorts of knitting and crocheting supplies.<br />
<br />
In two class sessions, we learned how to cast on, knit, purl, make some holes, and cast off.<br />
This is my finished sample product:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQWqo8ZPdITH9MjVcfPPzJd-POO72oghsA_ZpbT98J39EcjaHbbsRnsNz1slYesvrFgP6dDc3rf3JtwFeX6CxyH66-gNP-Ubaqm_hCzzanFjJZH2_GkAr9efJtZ99_4VZ6sB5XwI8719f/s640/blogger-image-12577689.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQWqo8ZPdITH9MjVcfPPzJd-POO72oghsA_ZpbT98J39EcjaHbbsRnsNz1slYesvrFgP6dDc3rf3JtwFeX6CxyH66-gNP-Ubaqm_hCzzanFjJZH2_GkAr9efJtZ99_4VZ6sB5XwI8719f/s640/blogger-image-12577689.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">There are all sorts of mistakes and I was tempted to rip it all out and start over. <br />
My daughter encouraged me to keep it.<br />
I think I will find a nice little spot on the wall in my sewing room to hang it.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
At first I felt awkward and clumsy but after awhile got into the rhythm of knitting/purling. I soon felt that nice calming affect that knitting provides. And I understand why it has become so popular.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I can already envision some serious knitting projects in my future. I see knitted scarfs, baby hats, blankets, and perhaps a sweater (eventually). Before I get ahead of my self though, I think I should continue with a lot more practice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
A LOT more.</div>

I would attend the event as Queen of Hearts . So I quickly got busy sewing my queenly outfit. Brushed off my crown and prepared for a most exquisite event.<br />
<br />
And oh, what an event it was!
<br />
The minute I entered Wheatley Castle, I was met with flowers and crowns everywhere.<br />

<br />
Fairy godmothers, and princesses galore...

<br />
<br />
<br />
(The performance of these three beauties' serenade to the mother to be was delightful.)<br />

<br />

<br />
The food was delicious but the desserts were to die for...
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And in the end, a carriage filled with pink, white and gold was presented to the soon to be mother and her little princess.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
It was so much fun to make this little outfit for my newest grandson's blessing (a "blessing" in my church is similar to a "christening" in other Christen churches ...our church just names the baby and does not baptize the child at this time):
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">One day I will have some labels made...for now I just sew them on my machine. The buttons (both front and back) are true blue vintage...got them from an estate sale. It is hard to see, but the band in front is upcycled from a vintage linen napkin. I liked it because it added a bit of texture.</td></tr>

<br />
Again, I re-purposed a hand embroidered dresser scarf for the collar.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The hat is the real deal...it came from my mother-in-law's collection.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/21242131@N07/11788880835/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Untitled by seaglass1, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5524/11788880835_692ee95ae6.jpg" width="375" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I got the fabric for a dollar a yard from the clearance section at Wallmart.<br />
What a deal.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I used this 1956 Retro Butterick pattern:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I sure do love the styles from yesteryear.<br /><br />Packet of Seedshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08348920734233633555noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8872820476854772967.post-43505739094888624812013-12-27T08:00:00.000-08:002014-01-13T23:03:12.558-08:00Sewing Vintage No. 1<div style="text-align: center;">
I have this HUGE stack of vintage patterns. I love the styles from the forties and fifties, so much so that I have decided to sew a vintage frock every month. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For September, I used this Vogue pattern:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/filebin/images/product_images/Full/V2903.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Vintage Vogue Pattern #2903</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fun thing about sewing this dress is I didn't have to go to the store to purchase one thing... I had everything already in my stash....everything down to the hot pink piping, thread and zipper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/11595315756/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Me by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Me" height="500" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2878/11595315756_b62c9c8b1b.jpg" width="329" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="text-align: start;">I used six yards of a very lightweight linen. I upcycled a hand embroidered dresser scarf edged</span><br />
<span style="text-align: start;">with hand crochet and incorporated it in the collar/yoke. </span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/11595346796/" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Heading to the salt lake temple with my dad by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Heading to the salt lake temple with my dad" height="262" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2892/11595346796_2ba753331e.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I love the feel of all that fabric swishing and swirling around my legs as I walk.
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next week I will share my October frock.</div>

<br />
When I was a young girl, our family of nine would all pile in the Dodge Dart station wagon and head east across the very hot, very boring and very flat Nevada desert to visit cousins and family in Utah. I hated that long drive...for one, we did not have air conditioning. To help alleviate our suffering, my mother would hang wet cloth diapers from the windows to keep the sun out and cool us off.<br />
<br />
After being on the road for 15-18 hours (sometimes we would stop at a rest stop to give my parents a break from driving) excitement filled our car as we exited the highway at 33rd South and headed east toward my grandma's house. After we passed State street, we would watch for the big neon lit plumbing sign that hung from a building across the street from her house...something similar to this:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.blogger.com/null" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img class="mainImage" src="http://www.windsorstar.com/cms/binary/2221243.jpg?size=640x420" style="height: 320px; width: 460px;" /></a></div>
<br />
Squeals of delight emanated from the car..."I see it! I see it! We're here!" The back screen door creaked open and my smiling grandparents with wide opened arms would greet us.<br />
<br />
Since we were the only family who lived outside of Utah, we would gather with all of our cousins and relatives.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">As you can see...we loved to gather for picnics</td></tr>

Sometimes we would head to the family cabin in Wyoming... where lasting relationships, bonds and memories were made.<br />

<br />
Let's fast forward fifty years....<br />
<br />
<br />
For the first time in several decades,<strong><em> all </em></strong>of my sisters, brother,dad and I made an epic trip to Utah in September to not only visit the aforementioned relatives but to also celebrate what would have been my parent's 65th wedding anniversary.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8QXT1iZVSDMIR9xfxksMsOSpIRvVdp6yhniM73hfNuaDcF3VjnpLS6xmJgTT5N3cgoZ_Q57lAWa7PWDhv0NAnHGcOgEHEiI9KSZ1y2IOK1NNTKegzo2env8_s8U7N_njnVBdGZtY1Wmp/s1600/IMG_5997.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8QXT1iZVSDMIR9xfxksMsOSpIRvVdp6yhniM73hfNuaDcF3VjnpLS6xmJgTT5N3cgoZ_Q57lAWa7PWDhv0NAnHGcOgEHEiI9KSZ1y2IOK1NNTKegzo2env8_s8U7N_njnVBdGZtY1Wmp/s320/IMG_5997.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
Cramming into a car is for the birds.... This time we all hopped on a plane<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/26476440@N03/9626298474/" title="Heading to slc by packetofseeds, on Flickr"><img alt="Heading to slc" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7380/9626298474_fccd17dfc8.jpg" height="375" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
and in 1 1/2 hours arrived in:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Downtown Salt Lake has had some major improvements over the last dozen years or so. Lots of music, action, eating and drinking in the dozens of breweries. One of my all time favorite "buildings"is the ZCMI...which is now only a impeccably restored façade.</div>

There is a fabulous Downtown Farmers Market during the summer on Saturday mornings. One of the top in the nation I hear. Picked up one of their bags for when I go to my own Farmer's Market.<br />

<br />
<br />
One night we ate dinner at the <a href="http://www.rediguana.com/home.html"><strong><span style="color: red;">Red Iguana</span></strong></a> . My friends who live in or visit Utah all rave about Café Rio...which is good. The Red Iguana is more like the real deal.<br />

In addition, my dad was in and out of the hospital and had major surgery so my energy was focused on helping my family. I thought I would take a short break . Well, that short break turned into over nine months. It is now time to jump back on the blog-wagon....</i><br />
<br />
Four weeks ago I got a call from my pregnant daughter, Adeline, informing me that she had just seen her doctor for her weekly checkup. Baby "Lamb" wasn't due for another two weeks and her labor hadn't even started. She had a small tear and had been leaking amniotic fluid for the last few days so they were admitting her to the hospital. No contractions. First baby. I thought to myself, "This is going to me a <i>very long night/day."</i><br />
<i> </i><br />
I soon received a text and pic from Adeline telling me she's all checked in. <br />

<br />
As I drove into Marshall's parking lot, a sweet feeling of peace overcame me. I <i>felt</i> my dear mother giving her goodbyes to my soon to be born grandson. She was telling him all about the loving family who will soon envelop him ... (great) grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his wonderful parents, who would be nurturing, protecting, teaching, and caring for him while here on earth. With tears rolling down my cheeks, I just sat there in my car feeling this immense love. I will soon meet my grandson who had just been in the presence of my mother. I knew all would be ok.<br />
<br />
Around midnight I got a text from.Adeline saying she was halfway to the finish line. I guess this isn't going to take as long as I originally thought! So I headed to the hospital.<br />
<br />
At first Adeline tried to deliver naturally but the pain got too intense and an epidural was ordered up. This is what I saw when I came back in the room....dimmed lights, sleeping dad, and very quiet. Epidurals rock.<br />
